Our good friend Lainie from the Allure Concept this week is our guest blogger helping with all things Make-Up for your wedding day
” Bridal makeup: soft, elegant, stunning”.
You want to appear natural and radiant with focus on you and how beautiful you are, NOT how good your makeup looks. You also want to look like you! Not like you have a tonne of makeup on.
I often tell my brides to keep their makeup simple and natural. You want your guests to comment on how beautiful you look, you don’t want them to say “Wow, your makeup looks amazing”.
It should be all about you and accentuating your features.
The colours used in most bridal parties tends to be soft, pastels, such as pinks, blues, greens, golds and silvers work really well, even if you have gone for colour in your dresses and/or accessories. Natural and earthy tones, like browns, creams, bronzes and greens are also a great choice. These colours will help to bring out your facial structure and highlight your eye colour.
If you read our previous posts I have discussed the colours that suit particular people, in short, if you are darker toned with darker coloured eyes you are a Warm colour. You will suit colours such as, browns, creams, golds, and dark tones in the colour spectrum. For those who are fair skinned with light eyes, you are a Cool colour, so choose silvers, whites, and pastel tones in the colour spectrum.
Your makeup artist knows what colours and tones will suit you. You just need to choose the look you want to go with. Which is why your bridal trials are so important! Your trials are there so you have the opportunity to see what your artists’ work is like before the wedding day also to try out the looks and styles you might like. Find images you like and show the makeup artist, that way she will have a good idea on the look you’re after. You can try different eye looks, lip colour or even false lashes.
The other important part of the trials is your consultation card. Your consultation card is what I use to record every product, colour, technique used on you so that on your wedding day we know exactly what we need. (That’s not to say your can’t change your mind!) I record things like the concealer I used to cover any blemishes or dark circles, what colour foundation you are, what colour blush or bronzer we used, what type of eye look you want (smoky eye, highlighted with pearl in the corner, eyeliner winged slightly etc)
This ensures that come your wedding day I have your colours worked out, it is less stressful and you can relax knowing that you have already seen the look and you know you love it!
It is also a great idea to have your bridesmaids trials done too. Again, for the same reasons, I will record their colours and looks but you also need to remember that your bridesmaids may have different tones to each other. This means, what suits one, may or may not suit the other(s). Some brides have chosen to just go with the same look on each girl and the result is one or two look great! But the other….not so much! Imagine having two dark skinned, dark hair, dark eyed girls with beautiful bronzed makeup on, and your other bridesmaid is fair skin, blonde with blue eyes…putting the same makeup on her is going to make her look like she has a tonne of makeup on and will wash her out completely.
It is much better to adjust everyone’s makeup to suit them, the same look will be acheived but it will be a lot nicer and everyone will be happy!
